JAH MAKIN IT HAPPEN 
A REGGAE MUSICAL

An inspirational theatrical production that tells the story of a Jamaican family’s journey from Jamaica to the UK during the Windrush era. Told through the vibrant sounds of reggae, the musical portrays the family’s challenges, resilience, and eventual triumphs as they adapt to British life.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

 

PRINCIPAL ROLES  (5 characters) all actors for roles 1-11 must be-able to do a Jamaican accent.

​

1) JOHNNY MORGAN  (BLACK,MALE, 40’S) - a Jamaican ex-service man, turned factory worker, turned reggae star & UK business owner . He is a Husband to Camilla and a father to Marlon and Kimmie

​

2) CLARENCE (BLACK,MALE, 40’S) - Johnny best friend and side kick who doesn't settle,  jumps on the bandwagon and coats through life

​

3) CAMILLA  (BLACK,FEMALE, 30-40’S) - Johnny's determined wife and loving mother to his children

​

4) MARLON  (BLACK,MALE, 16-18)  - Johnnys & Camilla's oldest child, an impressional teenager

​

5) KIMMY (BLACK FEMALE, 9-11)  - Johnny & Camilla's youngest child, very bright

​

DUAL SUPPORTING ROLES  (14 characters played by 7 actors in 2 roles)

6 & 7) DESIREE MATIS  (BLACK,FEMALE, 20-30’S) - An aspiring reggae singer with no respect for boundaries (doubles as Shelly-ann)

SHELLY-ANN (BLACK FEMALE, 20’S) a Scandalous women who flirts with Clarence)

​

8 & 9) HILDA  (BLACK,FEMALE, 50’S) - Nosey neighbour of the Morgan family back in Jamaica (role doubles with Sister Eskett)

SISTER ESKETT  (BLACK,FEMALE, 50’S)- Church Elder in Kingdom Tabernacle in the UK who counsels Camilla (role doubles with Hilda)

10 & 11) MARVIN  (BLACK, MALE, 50’S) - Johnny & Clarence no nonsense boss in Jamaica (role doubles with Pastor Pattison)

PASTOR PATTISON  (BLACK, MALE, 50’S) - Church Pastor at Kingdom Tabernacle in the UK ,  (role doubles as Marvin)​

 

12) SHAWN (BLACK, MALE, 30’S-40’S) – Johnny's work friend  (and band mate)

 

13) ROLAND (BLACK, MALE, 30’S-40’S) – Johnny's work friend (and band mate )

 

14 & 15) ANGIE (BLACK, FEMALE, 30’S-40’S) – Johnny backing singer (doubles as Cecil)

CECIL (BLACK, FEMALE 30’S-40’S) - Camilla best friend she meets in the UK(doubles as Angie)

The following roles  are non- singing and don't need to a Jamaican accent ;

16) DAVE (WHITE, MALE, 40’S)- UK Neighbor of the Morgan Family (doubles as Hogan Wise & Police man)

HOGAN WISE (WHITE, MALE, 40’S) - Owner of sound lounge in the UK where Johnny works (doubles as Dave & Policeman)

17) SARAH  (WHITE, FEMALE, 30-40’S) - Dave's wife, UK Neighbor of the Morgans (doubles as Becky)

BECKY  (WHITE, FEMALE, 18)  - Marlon's girlfriend (doubles as Sarah)
